How to export a list from a webpage to CSV

Quick answer
Copying a list from a webpage into a spreadsheet usually scrambles it, because a list isn't a table. Google Sheets can import some pages directly, and copying works for small lists. For a list you export often, add an Export CSV button that saves each item's title, link and price as columns.
Why lists are harder than tables
Search results, product listings, job boards, directories and marketplaces show information as a list of cards. Each card has a title, a link, a price, maybe a rating or a location, laid out visually rather than in rows and columns. That's why selecting the list and pasting it into a spreadsheet produces one long column of mixed text: the page never told the browser which bits belong together.
If the data you want is in an actual table, the blog post on adding an Export CSV button to any website table covers that case, which is simpler. This guide is about lists.
The built-in way
Google Sheets has an IMPORTXML function that can pull data from a public page into a sheet, if you can write the path to each piece of data. It's powerful and fiddly. It doesn't work on pages that need you to be signed in, or on pages that build their content with scripts after loading, which includes most modern shops and job boards.
The manual way
For a short list, building the spreadsheet by hand is honest work:
- Make columns for Title, Link and Price.
- For each item, copy the title, right-click the link and choose Copy link address, then copy the price.
- Save the sheet as CSV when you're done.
This is accurate and slow. Twenty items is ten minutes. Two hundred is an afternoon, and the list may have changed before you finish. Pasting the whole list and cleaning it up with formulas is faster for some lists, but each site needs its own clean-up.
Make it permanent with a tool
A button on the page can do the reading for you. A userscript is a short piece of JavaScript that runs on a site you choose. An export userscript knows how the items in that site's list are built, so for each card it can pick out the title, the full link and the price, put them in the right columns, and download the result as a .csv file that Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets open directly.
ScriptPanda is a Chrome extension that writes userscripts like this from a plain description. Open its side panel on the page with the list, paste the request at the end of this guide, and it builds the button above the list. Because it sees how that particular page is put together, you describe the columns in ordinary words, and you can ask for more: rating, seller, location, date posted, whatever the cards show.
Exporting doesn't call AI, so clicking the button doesn't use any of your plan's requests. Building the tool and changing it do.
Follow-ups people often ask for:
- Every page of results. Ask for the export to include items loaded with "Load more" or infinite scroll, after you've scrolled them into view.
- Clean numbers. Prices without currency symbols, so the spreadsheet can sum them.
- A date in the file name, so repeat exports don't overwrite each other.
Check the site's rules
Exporting what's on your screen for your own use is usually fine. Some sites' terms restrict copying their data in bulk or reusing it. If you're collecting data for a business or to republish, read the site's terms first.
Limits
The button exports the items on the page when you click it. It doesn't visit other pages, follow links into each item, or run on a schedule, and it can't export what you haven't loaded. Some fields may only appear inside each item's own page, which a page-level tool can't reach from the list. If the site changes how its list is built, columns can come out empty. Open ScriptPanda on the page, say which column is wrong, and ask it to fix the tool. The CSV file is saved to your computer as an ordinary download.
Do it with ScriptPanda
Build it in one request
Add an Export CSV button above this list that downloads every item with its title, link and price as a CSV file.
- 1Add ScriptPanda to Chrome.
- 2Open the side panel on the site you want to change.
- 3Paste the request and send it. ScriptPanda builds the tool into the page.
