How to hide trending topics on X (Twitter)

18 October 2026 · 4 min read

Quick answer

X has no setting to hide trends. Its Explore settings only choose which location your trends come from. To remove the Trending and What's happening panel and the Who to follow box from every page, add a small tool that hides them in your browser.

Why hide trends

The right-hand column on X is built to pull you somewhere else. What's happening lists the topics everyone is arguing about right now, and Who to follow suggests accounts to add. If you open X to read the people you follow, or to post and leave, that column is the part most likely to send you down a different path. Removing it leaves the timeline and nothing else.

The built-in way

X's settings let you change trends but not remove them. As of October 2026, X's help pages describe Explore settings, reached through Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety, then Content you see. There you can:

  • turn Show content in your current location on or off;
  • when it's off, choose a different location for your trends.

That decides which trends you're shown. It doesn't hide the panel, and there's no switch for Who to follow. You can dismiss individual suggestions, but new ones replace them.

The manual way

Without a setting, you can reduce how much you see:

  • Make the browser window narrower. Below a certain width, X drops the right-hand column.
  • Zoom the page in, which has the same effect on many screens.
  • Use Lists for reading, which keeps you on a page you chose rather than the home timeline.

These work, but a narrow or zoomed window is awkward for everything else, and you have to keep doing it.

Make it permanent with a tool

The direct fix is to hide the panels themselves. A userscript is a small piece of JavaScript that runs on a website you choose. One for X finds the trending panel and the Who to follow box, wherever they appear, and hides them. X is a single-page app: it changes pages without reloading, and it redraws the column often. So the tool needs to keep watching the page and hide the panels each time X draws them, not only when the site first loads.

ScriptPanda is a Chrome extension that builds tools like this from a plain description. Open its side panel on x.com, paste the request at the end of this guide, and it writes and installs the userscript. Trends and suggestions disappear from the home page, from profiles and from individual posts.

Once it's built, the tool runs without AI, so using it doesn't spend any of your plan's requests. Building it and changing it later do.

You can take it further with follow-ups:

  • Hide the Explore link in the left sidebar as well.
  • Hide the For you tab, so the home page opens on Following.
  • Hide view counts, or reply suggestions under posts.

Related changes

If LinkedIn's feed or Reddit's promoted posts pull you in the same way, the related guides cover those. Each one is its own tool that you can switch off separately when you want the old page back.

Getting it back

The tool lives in ScriptPanda's list of tools in your browser. Switch it off there and X shows the trending panel again on the next page load, switch it on and it's gone. Nothing about your X account changes either way, so you can experiment freely.

Limits

The tool changes X in Chrome on your computer. It doesn't affect the X app on your phone, and it doesn't change your account, X will still have trends for you, you just won't see them. Panels can show for a moment before the tool hides them. If X changes its page layout and the panel comes back, open ScriptPanda on x.com, say what reappeared, and ask it to fix the tool for the page as it is now.

Do it with ScriptPanda

Build it in one request

On X, hide the Trending and What's happening panel and the Who to follow box, everywhere on the site.

  1. 1Add ScriptPanda to Chrome.
  2. 2Open the side panel on the site you want to change.
  3. 3Paste the request and send it. ScriptPanda builds the tool into the page.
